Regardless of the pandemic crisis, schedule changes may happen twice a year (usually in Spring and in Autumn) without any notice.

The opening hours for big commercial stores and shopping malls are 09:00-21:00 (Monday to Friday) and 09:00-20:00 (on Saturdays). Some shopping malls may open after 10:00am. Super Markets open one hour earlier, at 8:00am. Stores may also be open, between 11:00 and 18:00, in the following Sundays: the last two Sundays before Christmas, the last Sunday of the year, the Sunday before Easter and the first Sunday of every sales period (usually in January, May, July, and November). Some smaller stores close earlier on Mondays and Wednesdays (at 17:00), and on Saturdays (at 15:00). On Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, smaller stores may also be closed between 14:00 to 17:00.

Pharmacies

Combined tickets are valid for 3 days and cost 15€ per person (reduced price: 8€).

Entrance to archaeological sites, monuments, and to the museums that are owned by the Greek State is free on the following days:
1) First Sunday of the month from November to March (during the rest of the days of the same months the entrance fee is reduced to half the price)
2) March 6th (Memory of Melina Mercouri)
3) April 18th (International Day of Monuments)
4) May 18th (International Day of Museums)
5) Last weekend of September (European Days of Cultural Heritage)
6) October 28th (National Holiday)

During the following official holidays, all archaeological sites, monuments, and museums in Thessaloniki are closed: January 1st, March 25th (Greek Independence Day), Easter Sunday, May 1st (Labor Day) and December 25-26th (Christmas). On Good Friday, the opening time is usually set later in the day (around 12:00) and on Holy Saturday, Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve the closing time might be set earlier (around 15:00). On the rest of the official holidays (you can see them all here) only the main archaeological sites, monuments, and museums are usually open (before your visit on a holiday, check their websites for relevant announcements, or make a phone call).

Keep in mind that the Greek Orthodox Easter is usually on a different date than the Catholic Easter and that the Jewish Museum is also closed during the Jewish Holidays.

Some of the Byzantine churches are closed in the middle of the day and they open again in the afternoon for the Vespers. During the Winter they open for the Vespers somewhere between 16:30 and 17:00 and during the Summer between 18:00 and 18:30. They usually stay open for one and a half or two hours.
